The Wiener derby, or Vienna derby in English, is an association football local derby match between city rivals FK Austria Wien and SK Rapid Wien from the Austrian capital city of Vienna (Wien). The two sides are the most successful in the country, with more national titles and cups between them than any other Austrian club. They are also two of the most popular clubs in Austria, with fans across the country and even in Iceland. They are the only Austrian sides to have never been relegated; both have been in the top flight of Austrian football since 1911, tied for the second-longest uninterrupted spell in the top flight of any club on the Continent. ℹ️
Each Monday our email newsletter delivers to you a schedule of the coming week's derbies and rivalry matches plus the results of last week's derbies and rivalry matches with links to video highlights. See past issues here.
A football derby is a highly charged match between longstanding rival teams, typically from the same city or region. Derbyist is a website that makes it easy to see which derbies are coming up in leagues around the world. The website also has historical results and links to video highlights of past derbies.
This site is a labor of love by Jerry Brito. It's a fun hobby project, but it does cost a couple hundred dollars a year to run. So, if you'd like to show your appreciation by contributing a few bucks, it would mean a lot.
Here is a list of all the derbies and rivalry matches that we track. We are working to expand the depth of historical results and to include links to video highlights if they're available.
We have aimed to include the most famous derbies and rivalries, but obviously we can't track every derby in the world. To help us fairly limit what we track, we only include in our database derbies or rivalries that have a page in English language Wikipedia. For example, here is the Wikipedia page for the Old Firm.
We very much welcome you letting us know if we've missed a derby. To get in touch, just reply to any issue of the Derbyist newsletter. Please include a link to the English language Wikipedia page for the derby in question. (See answer to previous question.) If there is no Wikipedia page, feel free to create one. If the new page successfully becomes part of Wikipedia we will happily add the matchup to Derbyist.
